What is Telemedicine and How does it Work?

Telemedicine is not for every problem; however, it is appropriate for acute concerns, quick medical questions, or quick follow-ups… If your problem falls around these categories, please schedule an appointment. We can’t wait to help you. The person and physician share a teleconference and the Provider answers all questions and conducts an exam. If further testing is needed, we will coordinate with your primary care to take appropriate action and perhaps see you in person.

  1. How much does it cost?

Telemedicine visits are charged as a personal visit, not as a specialist visit which would be significantly more expensive. Fees for person visits vary as they do across the entire medical field; however, normally personal visits range from $30-60 depending on co-insurance. We follow the standard person office fee schedule at our location which is subject to change at any time without notice. Provider’s discretion to accept or deny insurance payment for telemedicine services varies according to patient eligibility…

  2. Why would I need to use telemedicine?

When is it NOT appropriate to use telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a great tool, but not for every problem. It would be inappropriate when there are any of the following: acute blood loss, pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, active chest pain, or trauma where blood loss as these things would be concerning. We want to make sure that you receive the best care possible in person, so in most of these cases, we would suggest contacting your primary care provider so that they can see you in person.

In the same vein, we wouldn’t be able to take your blood pressure or other procedures that require us to be in your presence checking your vitals. So we strongly encourage in the face of a medical emergency, it’s best to either call 911 or contact the primary care provider that can give you further direction.

  3. Who can benefit from using the service?

If you have a concern that does not require an in-person visit with your provider, but rather a quick question or a quick medical problem where a phone call might be appropriate, then telemedicine is the best place for you.

  4. How does it work

After booking an appointment, you will get a link to connect with a Healthcare provider that can best help you. Based on the issue and your medical history and current symptoms, we will be able to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan. On certain occasions, we may request additional lab work to get more information about your problem.

What if I need follow-up care?

If telemedicine is part of your initial visit for diagnosis or testing, then you must schedule an appointment with the primary care provider to get any ongoing medical recommendations or treatment plans after that initial visit. Because telemedicine is used as a tool in order to evaluate a case in terms of what’s going on with your body, it’s not meant to be a replacement for in-person visits in long-term care scenarios.

  5. Where can I find a doctor that offers this service in my area

Is telemedicine covered by my health insurance?

Telemedicine isn’t always covered by your healthcare insurance plan, so be sure to check with your specific carrier to learn more about what can be reimbursed under your policy. If telemedicine is an option that’s available through your primary care provider, then it’s worth checking into costs associated with the appointment as well as how much reimbursement will be provided for this visit.

How Do I Schedule an appointment with Extraordinary Family Healthcare?

All you would need to do is navigate to our Telemedicine page and book an appointment using the button labeled “Book an appointment”. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive more instructions on how to specifically get into the telemedicine platform.

  6. What are the benefits of using telemedicine over traditional visits to doctors’ offices or hospitals

With the rise of contagious diseases and overall sickness, some of our patients would rather not take the risk of exposing family members to illness. Telemedicine gives patients the ability to receive high-quality treatment without having to leave their homes or be exposed to the possible spread of contagious diseases.

Will I have a video conversation with my doctor?

Yes, you will have a video call with your healthcare provider, unless otherwise specified.

How will I know what information should be exchanged during our visit?

During your telehealth appointment, you’ll have an opportunity to share all the information needed for the provider to make recommendations on care plans or treatments moving forward.

The biggest benefit of a total healthcare provider is having peace of mind knowing that your insurance will cover anything. In addition, you’ll never have to worry about running out of money.

To understand what a total healthcare provider is, we need to understand what “total” means. Total means everything – including your prescriptions, laboratory tests, and more. With total healthcare providers in place, you’ll never have to worry about finding another healthcare provider.

Total healthcare providers are gaining popularity among health care professionals. This is because they provide comprehensive coverage for treatments and procedures.

First, you should check in with the front desk. They will take your medical history from you and fill out the necessary forms for the doctor’s office. After that, they will take you through an orientation before meeting with your doctor.

The doctor will ask a lot of questions about what brought you into the office. They will need to know whether or not there have been any recent events such as personal injuries or illnesses. They will also take note of any medical allergies or pre-existing conditions.

Many times people think of physician assistants and nurse practitioners as secondary care providers as well. This is because they cannot actually practice without being under the umbrella of a licensed physician. However, let’s break down exactly what a physician assistant or nurse practitioner is.

A physician assistant acts very similarly to a primary physician. They are not fully licensed to practice medicine. It is very similar to the role of a nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner is someone who has taken post-secondary education. They too need to work under a licensed provider. This means that they are a secondary care provider. They are not a primary care provider. However, depending on your insurance, they could be. It can get a little confusing.

Secondary care providers often coordinate with the primary care physician. This allows them to provide the best overall care of the patient. This includes nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, podiatrists, optometrists, dietitians, and the like. If a nurse practitioner is working under a physician they are likely to be on an

Typically whoever the patient is under care for, will be the person that will prescribe medications. For example, if you have surgery, you will get your pain medications from the surgeons’ office. Your primary care physician will not be in charge of that. However, if you have high blood pressure, then your primary care office is who you need to go see. Be sure that you communicate with each office what types of medications you are taking and the doses. It is also helpful to use one pharmacy so that you will not have any conflicting medications as well.

Most health care insurances will ask you to provide the name of your primary care physician. They will often require approvals for secondary care such as specialists. A referral will have to be made by your primary care to go to the secondary care physician. Sometimes this referral will need to be approved by your insurance company. You will need to ask your insurance how the process works.

An OB-Gyn is dedicated to fully understanding the way a woman’s parts work and how they should work when they are healthy. Sometimes you have super heavy bleeding that you need to be treated for or other times there may be a cyst on an ovary that is causing pain. Women’s health is important to care for and seeing an OB-Gyn when needed will help you stay healthy.

Take your time when looking for an OB-Gyn to find an offer that is perfect for you. While you might have some suggestions from friends and family members, this is your health and you need to go where you are comfortable. It is also important to find an office that is close to work or home. This will make it easier to attend appointments when you need to. This is especially important when you become pregnant as you will have an increase in visits and it can be quite a challenge to keep up with, especially if you are tired from the pregnancy.

Although most people think that the terms are interchangeable, this is not the case.

The term health is usually used to refer to physical and mental health. However, the term wellness digs into your life in more aspects to create a good balance, such as being satisfied and comfortable with your life.

Wellness digs into further aspects of your body and mind, which could be your career, home environment, or anything else that is affecting your life and thoughts. It is the state of being incomplete physical & mental well-being.

For example, you could have good health but not have a fulfilling life because your career is not right. If this were the case, you would be in good health condition, but your wellbeing would not be good.

However, keep in mind that sometimes they can cross over, as they are linked to each other. For example, mental health is part of both Wellness and Health.

Anything that affects the state of our health is an area of health. Below, we’ve listed some example areas of health, so you can get a better idea of what is included.

Wellness goes beyond ensuring that you are healthy. One example that shows this is if you want to lose weight. In the health area, it includes losing weight if it is affecting your overall health. However, if you choose to lose weight simply because you feel more comfortable, this would be a sub-section of wellness, as it goes beyond your physical health.

As you can see, wellness dives into almost every aspect of your life. For example, health on its own would never look at your financial well-being, but wellness covers that too as it affects your wellbeing.

We hope this article has helped highlight the differences between Wellness vs. Health.

Remember that health is the goal of both of them, so they do cross-over in some areas. However, wellness is a dynamic process in making decisions in a wider variety of dimensions to ensure a balanced lifestyle.

From Katie Perry to Madonna, all the A-listers are lining up to roll up their sleeves for the newest fad to hit Hollywood – IV nutrition therapy. With celebs swearing by this therapy, it leaves you wondering, what if IV nutrition therapy and how can it help me?
IV nutrition therapy is an infusion of specific vitamins and minerals that is given intravenously. Proponents of the therapy claim that by bypassing the gastrointestinal tract you are able to provide higher doses of vitamins directly to the cells that need it most. It is considered to be a far more efficient way of replenishing your body with vital nutrients and especially beneficial to people with absorption issues. From an energy or immune system boost to healthy skin and sports recovery, there are a variety of reasons that people whose to get their vitamin fix by IV.

                    What is in it?
IV nutrition therapy can contain a combination of any of the following elements:

                    Vitamin C
This vitamin is well known for it’s immune boosting properties and its ability to fight colds and flu. While it can be taken as a pill, your digestive system will only allow a certain amount to be released into your bloodstream at a time. IV nutrition therapy bypasses this process and delivers high doses of this immune boosting super-vitamin right where you need it most.
Also known for it’s cancer-fighting properties, early studies in mice have shown intravenous vitamin C to aid chemotherapy fight cancer cells while having a protective effect on normal healthy cells. While more research is needed to prove this effect, the results are promising.

                    B Vitamins
These are the energy vitamins that can help revive you after a long work week or jet lag. This group of vitamins are vital in creating energy from the food you eat and help create red blood cells, the oxygen-carrying cells in your blood. Low levels of certain B vitamins can cause diseases such as anemia.

                    Magnesium
Magnesium is a powerful mineral involved in many processes in the body including the muscles and nerves. This is the relaxing mineral known for giving you that relaxed and happy feeling you often get after a treatment. It is also important in muscle cell function so is very beneficial for sports recovery. Magnesium help keep your blood pressure normal, your heart rhythm steady and keep your bones strong. If you are not able to get enough magnesium in your diet you can end up with elevated inflammation markers, which is associated with major health problems such as heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and certain cancers . If you take medications for acid stomach or have bowel absorption diseases such as Crohn’s disease your ability to absorb magnesium in your digestive tract can be impaired. Taking IV nutrition therapy can bypass that faulty digestive system getting your magnesium strait to your cells.

                    Zinc
This mineral is a powerful immune booster, known for its ability to help you fight off bacteria and viruses. It is also helpful to speed wound healing. Low levels of zinc can cause hair and skin issues as well as reducing male libido.

                    Amino Acids
Amino acids are small molecules that make up protein. When you eat protein, your body breaks it down into single amino acids, then uses them to create new proteins that your body needs for muscle and tissue repair and immune system functioning. Athletes and body builders also swear by amino acids to help repair tissue and build more lean muscle. Similarly, amino acids can help your body recover from surgery or injury .

                    Glutathione
This is the secret to IV nutrition’s anti-aging power. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that can help fight aging, cancers, and chronic diseases such as heart disease, dementia and more . To understand antioxidants think of aging as rust building up on your cells. Antioxidants work by preventing oxidation, or rust, from building up and speeding up aging or causing chronic diseases. Glutathione is produced in your body by your liver but toxins from a poor diet, pollution, stress, and infections can deplete your levels. Glutathoine is a protein, so if you take it as a pill you will digest it and lose any beneficial effects from it. When glutathione is infused through IV nutrition therapy it bypasses the digestive system and works immediately to fight the damaging effects of oxidation and free radicals .

                    Who should get it?
IV nutrition therapy is for anyone who needs a boost in their energy levels or immune system.
Energy Boost and Stress Relief
People who travel a lot, or who simply burn the midnight oil especially love the energy and health boost that IV nutrition therapy can give you. The B vitamins, magnesium and other nutrients in IV Nutrition Therapy can fight against the stresses of life, decreasing anxiety and blood pressure, and making you feel happier and calmer. These vitamins can also help your body turn food into energy, boosting your motivation and help you perform at your best.
Immunity and Disease Prevention
The antioxidants in IV Nutrition therapy such as Glutathione, Vitamin C, and Amino Acids can not only protect against chronic disease but boost your immune system to avoid getting sick and help protect you from bacteria and viruses.

Diabetes is a significant illness in the United States today, reaching epidemic levels throughout the world. In 2015 an estimated 30.0 million people, comprising 9.4% of the population, had diabetes in the U.S. These numbers are continually rising with an estimated 1.5 million new diagnoses every year[1]. This disease causes many health complications and has a high mortality rate.

If you live with diabetes, then you know how difficult it can be to manage your disease while living your busy life. Between work and family responsibilities it can be challenging to squeeze in lab work and doctors’ appointments let alone monitoring daily blood sugar levels.

The goal of diabetes treatment is to achieve control of your blood glucose levels and blood pressure levels, substantially eliminating the causes of most complication associated with the disease. The most effective programs for diabetes management involve close monitoring your health data (blood glucose levels, A1,etc.), patent education, and empowering self-care{2}.

Close monitoring, however, can be both costly and time-consuming, decreasing your likelihood to remain compliant with the regime. Do you ever wonder if there is an easier way? By using telemedicine, your diabetes can be closely monitored without significant disruptions to your life and route, and data can be closely followed with minimal effort.

Telemedicine interventions such as virtual visits, remote patent monitoring devices and apps, texting and web-based communication tools can be applied to your diabetes care, making a significant impact on not only the cost of treatment but also on improved health outcomes.

      Lower Cost

The costs of diabetes are high, estimated at $245 billion in the US in 2012. Average medical costs for people with diabetes are around $13,000 per year, on average more than double that of people without the disease{3}.

The high cost of treatment and the cost of monitoring for complication puts a burden on people with diabetes, especially for those in poverty. These expenses could affect your ability to attend appointments and remain compliant with a treatment plan.

Healthcare costs can be significantly reduced when telemedicine is a part of the treatment plan. In one study Medicare patents were put in a pilot program using telemedicine to manage diabetic care and were compared to a similar group that was not participation in the program. The costs for the participants in the pilot study were between 7 .7 % and 13.3% lower than those of the nonparticipants{4}. In addition to direct healthcare costs, using telemedicine for diabetes treatment can save the cost of travel and lost time at work, enabling you to attend appointments and consultations remotely and at a convenient time.

      Better outcomes

Diabetes is well suited for treatment with telemedicine. Much of your diabetic data can be easily digitalized and sent to the health practitioner electronically such as blood glucose levels, exercise, and food intake. Many programs and apps exist that can automatically send this information to the healthcare provider where they can track and analyze trends.

Studies show that successful treatment for diabetes requires close monitoring of a patent’s health data and lifestyle choices, intervening early before significant health problems arise. Furthermore, recognizing trends in blood glucose levels can enable you to avoid and prevent episodes of low blood sugar, increasing safety and providing more freedom and flexibility in their daily lives.

Studies show that patents are more likely to be compliant with care and achieve beter outcomes when using telemedicine. The HgbA1C (A1C) is a laboratory test that is widely used to monitor diabetes management as it gives a picture of blood sugars over a period of a few months, instead of merely looking at the Current blood sugar. Higher A1C levels are associated with more health complication such as neuropathy or kidney failure. A systematic review demonstrated that telemedicine consistently reduced A1C levels compared to controls, especially in those with type 1 diabetes[5} . The close monitoring done with telemetric not only enabled the healthily provider to recognize trends and intervene early but kept the patents accountable for their choice, improving the likelihood of compliance with the regime.

One such study{6} compared a control group that was treated with a traditional treatment at a doctor’s office with a telemedicine group where participants had to upload their blood glucose levels regularly as well as other health behaviors such as exercise, smoking and food and alcohol intake. The researchers then monitored the blood glucose levels and the health behaviors, providing intervention when necessary. After 3 months, patents in the telehealth group had better control on their blood glucose levels, had fewer blood sugar lows, and improved A1C levels compared to the control group.

Diabetes is a significant health problem, causing many health complication. Close monitoring can positively affect the effects of the disease, helping to normalize blood sugar levels and A1C levels, but can it can be very costly and time-consuming. Telemedicine is a great way to manage your diabetes, saving money and making monitoring and follow up visits more convenient and useful.

If you suffer from diabetes and are looking for a more convenient way to manage your disease, consider using telemedicine. Dr. Brandy and her team at Extraordinary Healthcare can help you manage your Diabetes and help to prevent further complication. Together you can get control of your diabetes and help you live a happier, healthier life.

Telemedicine is a convenient and safe way to access medical care. It is a great way to bridge gaps in healthcare to ensure that you and your family can access medical care when you need it. While it may seem cutting edge, it is becoming one of the fastest growing medical trends in America today. According to a HIS Technology report, the number of telemedicine patients has increased by over 19,000% in the past five years. More and more people are using and loving telemedicine today!

But is telemedicine right for you? While it may not be the right option for a severe illness like a heart attack or stroke, it is an excellent option for people with chronic illnesses, minor illnesses, people who need follow up appointments and more.

Here are some of the ways a telemedicine visit can help you and your loved ones.

      Telemedicine for Chronic Illnesses

Carl has type II diabetes. Between doctors’ appointments, lab work, and travel back and forth he feels like all he does is go to the doctor! Since using telemedicine, however, he has more time to do the things he loves. Instead of driving to the doctor’s office and then waiting for his appointment, all he has to do is log in, see his doctor on his computer and then go on with his day.

Telemedicine is a great way to make sure you stay on your course and treatment and ensure your medications are working for you. If you have the equipment to monitor your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight at home you can easily give this information to the doctor. Booking your follow up appointments is a breeze, and there is no need to wait in a crowded waiting room taking up your valuable time.

      Telemedicine for Colds and Flu

When you are sick, the last thing you want to do is get out of bed and go to the doctor’s office. Also, you can keep those germs at home and avoid spreading your illness around a crowded waiting room!

Telemedicine is a great way to access medical help from the comfort of your home. You think it might be a cold, but are worried it might be something more? By using telemedicine, you can quickly and easily find out if your illness is serious, and get a prescription for medication if you need it.

      After Hours Telemedicine Calls

Instead, she uses telemedicine, sees a doctor online and has a prescription faxed to her local pharmacy without leaving the house. Her son gets better quickly on his medication.

Illness does not only happen during the day or during the week. You can get sick at any time of the day. Telemedicine can get you access to medical care when you need it, at a time convenient to your schedule.

      Telemedicine for Minor Illnesses

This situation is where telemedicine can help. After an online consultation, you can get a prescription faxed to your local pharmacy with enough medication to last you until you can see your doctor.
